Sports Leadership Training
The Day Certificate in Sports Leadership provides an ideal starting point for people aged 16+ who have very little or no sports coaching experience. The certificate aims to enable candidates to develop generic coaching skills and increase their confidence so that they may assist with the delivery of sporting activities for young people. It's a practical course where candidates must demonstrate knowledge and understanding through physical competence rather than written work.
Sunday 1st March 2009 [9.30 - 17.30]
Edenbridge Centre, Edenbridge
Cost - £17.50 per person

Stuart Butler, Community Sports Leadership Co-ordinator
Stuart heads up the Sports Leadership Project in Kent and has been in post since January 2006. The project has been initially funded for three years and is funded by Sports Leaders UK, Community Wardens, Youth & Community, Youth Offending Service and the Kent Sports Development Unit (all part of K.C.C.). Based at Meopham School the project is also involved in the local Gravesham School Sport Partnership.
The overall aim of the project is to ‘increase the number of young people involved in leadership and community volunteering to ensure that more safe sporting activities can be organised and supported.’ By using the awards run by Sports Leaders UK the project will develop confidence and self-esteem within youngsters, provide volunteering opportunities, develop key skills that lead to recognised qualifications and employment, engage those at risk of offending into positive activities, and provide training for adults working with young people. By the end of the project sustainable systems will be in place to ensure Sports Leadership within Kent continues.
