About Activmob
Activmob is a scheme for everyone, which is being established by Kent County Council and The Design Council and contributes to KCC’s targets to engaging the public in more physical activity. The scheme helps people to exercise within their everyday lives, realising that we can still be active even if we are not comfortable with more formal activities like going to the gym or fitness/exercise classes.
Activmob is all about making physical activity part of everyday life. Anyone can get together a group of friends, family or colleagues and start and 'activmob' providing the activity improves wellbeing. You may want to start a running mob, a walking mob, a get-off-the-bus-two-stops-early-mob, a lunch time yoga club or a pram pushing mob;Â activmobs don't have to do things that would traditionally be called 'sport'.
Activmob aims to build on what people already do or would like to do, getting together with others to have fun while getting fitter. Whether it’s gardening, dancing, golfing, dog walking, cycling, front room yoga, swimming, fitness videos, country walks, abseiling, bird watching or pretty much anything (within reason of course!). Anyone of any age can start an Activmob, recruiting friends, family or work colleagues to join in to form a small group, which meets regularly. The group chooses the activity and the Activmob programme gives start up support to get the group going.
The Activmob website can help you find mobs that you can join in your area, and you can even use it make suggestions for mobs you'd like to see running - you never know someone may be thinking the same thing and start one up. It's free to register as an activmob and to use the system. (NB some mobs may charge a small fee to cover the cost of venue hire.)
